Do you have a question about our online TEFL course? Do you
have a query about teaching English as a second language
abroad? If so, please read through our TEFL
course FAQ below:
Is this a real TEFL/TESL course?
Yes.
It is a short TEFL/TESL course created by experienced ESL tutors
who found that the full-time course was more training than
needed to teach English abroad.
We took the most practical elements – the sections that deal with teaching skills – and
put them into a 40-hour intensive course.
Do I have to be a native English speaker?
No. Teachers of all nationalities and native tongues are teaching English as
a foreign language worldwide. Of course, your level of English has to be high
enough to benefit the students and this will be assessed by your tutor.
So why do people spend nearly $1500/£1000 on
a TEFL course?
Because they want a career in TEFL/TESL. Most people don’t
want a lifetime career in teaching English, they just want to teach during their
summer break or while
they are traveling, or they want to go on a volunteer placement with i-to-i.
Our course is for those without the time or funds to invest in a full-time course.
How can I be sure of the course you offer?
i-to-i is the largest TEFL/TESL training organization in the UK and the largest online TEFL school worldwide. 3,000 TEFL teachers per year train on our courses. Once they are abroad, we often hear from them about how the course got them work. See our Past Tutee message board for some examples. All our tutors are also fully qualified, experienced and committed to i-to-i.
“The i-to-i course provides the key principles that underlie modern TEFL.” Sunday
Telegraph (a leading British newspaper.)
What's the difference between your Online and your Weekend course?
Although
they do cover similar areas, each has its own advantages. The Weekend course
offers a chance to get stand-up practice in delivering a lesson and
watch others in action; providing ideas and inspiration within a structured TEFL/TESL
methodology. The Online course allows more study time and in-depth analysis,
covering teaching skills and grammar in more detail. You also have the benefit
of a tutor dedicated to you personally, and can gain live teaching exposure from
a 30-minute CD-ROM of a TEFL tutor in action.
The Weekend course is currently only offered in the UK and Ireland. i-to-i also
offer an 80-hour Extended TEFL Course. This package lets you combine the Weekend
and Online course plus the self-study Grammar Awareness Module all for a reduced
price of £295/€395.
How do I enroll on the course?
Go to Enroll Now to
learn the three easy ways to get started.
How long will it take to complete the course?
The course is made up of 10 modules. Your tutor will grade each module within
24 hours of receiving your submission, Monday to Friday, scoring your tasks,
forwarding comments and suggesting solutions where appropriate. You will then
be able to proceed to the next module. The course should take you about 40 hours
to complete. Most people finish the course in 4-6 weeks, but you can do it in
as little as 2 weeks or as long as 6 months.
What if I have questions during the course?
You can direct any questions to your online tutor while you take the course or
after you have finished.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, as well as
a booklet containing all the concepts covered in the course,
so that you don’t have to print it all out.
Do you give career advice?
Yes. A thorough knowledge of where to look for work to teach English abroad is very important. We spend a module on the course discussing where to look, how to apply and what to expect.
Will it get me a paid TEFL job?
Yes, people with the i-to-i qualification are working all over the world. Visit our Past Tutee Message board for some examples.
Do I need to book an i-to-i teaching placement if I go on a TEFL course?
No. A quarter of all i-to-i TEFLers travel with us, and the rest organize their own work.
If I book an i-to-i teaching placement,
will the course be deducted from the balance?
Yes, just make sure you
let us know that you have done the course when you book the placement.
Do I have to be a university graduate?
No academic qualifications are required, as long as you speak English to a native standard and have the ability to analyze language, reflect on teaching methods and learn from experience.
Is there a minimum or maximum age?
Yes, you should be at least 17 years of age or older.
How much does the i-to-i Online TEFL cost?
US$295
/ €295 / £195 / Aus$450 / CAD$400
What computer do I need?
This
course can be taken on most computers, even in Internet cafés. You’ll
need a PC or Mac capable of connecting to the Internet. Module
6 requires the use of a PC with CD-ROM capabilities and speakers.
Module 6 is the only part of the course that is not Mac compatible.
What if I don't finish the course in 6 months?
We
believe that to gain the most from the course, you must be complete within
six months of enrollment. In exceptional circumstances you may be given a month
long extension for a fee of £40/€60/$US.
I haven't received my log in details by email?
Please be aware that some Hotmail, Yahoo and other web-based email accounts are
set up to send any emails that are suspected of being spam to trash / junk folders.
